HIPAA 2015
In the past few years, HIPAA requirements have increasingly become more stringent, forcing companies that deal with private healthcare information to take swift, compliant action, as cyber threats proliferate across the globe. The goal is to not only protect the information of both customers and employees in the healthcare industry, but to also make the protection of such information an indelible principle that all companies are obliged to follow, in order to prevent future data breaches and medical thefts.
Following the 2014 data breaches of companies like Sony, JP Morgan Chase, and The Home Depot, any leniency that the Health & Human Services Department once had for companies violating HIPAA requirements will likely vanish.
Healthcare companies that have signed business associates, and their subcontractors (both locally and off-shore), with BAAs will be vigilantly inspected. HIPAA has even planned its own audit program that is expected to take place in 2015, which will audit all covered entities online casino and their respective business associates.
With these upcoming audits and requirements, it”s safe to say that the Health & Human Services Department are looking to crack down on negligent, reckless healthcare data protection, as cyber security has just recently — since the massive, nationwide Target data breach — been thrust into the national spotlight.
Expect updated HIPAA requirements and audit information to be released in the coming months.
